An 1897 Clerkenwell pub reopens as The Horses
Restaurant Versus · 5 September 2026 · Clerkenwell
Public House Group have taken the former Coach & Horses on Ray Street, their fourth London pub.
The Horses is opening at 26-28 Ray Street in Clerkenwell in late September.
The site was the Coach & Horses, a pub dating to 1897. The new operators are Public House Group, who also run The Pelican, The Hero and The Fat Badger.
The food is described as British and seafood-led, with seasonal Cotswolds produce on the menu.
Pub takeovers of this kind sit awkwardly in official data. The premises registration usually transfers or is refiled under a new trading name, which is why a pub that has served continuously for over a century can appear in the food register as though it were brand new.
